Mike Sam, all first team SEC defensive end for Missouri, just became the first openly gay man to join the NFL. Now he is not even on a team yet, but he will be. He will be a great NFL player. He has a gift, a gift that was given to him. He can do something that only a small percentage of people in this world can do.

To be an NFL player you have to be the absolute cream of the crop. There are 117 division I schools in NCAA football. There are 85 scholarships handed out to schools not under any kind of NCAA sanctions in division I football. Not counting walk ons that boost those team totals to anywhere from 100 to 120 plus. So not counting walk ons that brings us to 9945 players. That is not counting walk ons, that is not counting Division IAA programs, D-2 programs, junior college, and all your buddies in high school that couldn't make it up one more level. He is the cream. He rose to the top.

And he is gay....
