Kira-Belle Olsson not only has an outstanding name, she's also an Australian surfer who was badly bitten by a shark. Not lost-her-arm bad, but bad enough. And yet, she exhibits a wisdom that most of us would find hard to conjure after being bitten a few times by a shark (note, some of the images at the linked story are kind of graphic images of her leg with the deep shark bites in it):

Via Mashable: Olsson, with a maturity well beyond her years that would put Shark Week out of business, followed up with a post telling people to respect the "amazing" sharks.

sharks are one of the most amazing creatures as I snorkel with them and they don't attack unless they mistake you for a fish. 'Im not a negative person so if you people writing some negative comments could please stop.

She was admitted to Gosford Hospital where she underwent surgery on the deep wounds to her calf and ankle.

It isn't the first time Olsson has come in contact with a shark while surfing in Australian waters.

"This shark was right in front of me with its mouth wide open getting a fish," she told the Daily Telegraph. "It's their home, they're only doing what they do every day. It's not like they say, 'there's a person I'm going to eat it.'"
