The new recommended logo size is 600x80 (scaling down to 300x40) which means we'll have to be more creative or simple when designing new images... Out of curiosity I checked the logo dimensions for Valleywag, it is 503x80 and Gawker's is 764x80 pixels wide.
For the sake of experimentation, I created wider logo than Gawker's and 800 pixels looks better but what is the maximum width while staying in proportion? 842x80* pixels, so enjoy the extra area.
*I was able to increase the width but the image is trimmed or resized to 421x40. Increasing image width to 900 causes distortion that resembles a slight page rendering defect, there is no error.
