For a long time, you could look at Google Maps satellite view of Joplin, MO and see the flattened trees, houses, buildings all lying willy-nilly scattered across the barren landscape, then go to Google Street View and see the leafy, tree-lined neighborhoods that used to be there.
Now Google Street View has finally updated Joplin and where the tornado hit, you can still see the remains of trees that were stripped of their bark and upper branches, new construction, and not much else. On Satellite view you can see the swath of barrenness where the tornado went through.
Want to see a hospital disappear? In this frame https://maps.google.com/maps/myplaces?… you can see the remains of what used to be St. John's Hospital. Just click one frame to the left (north) and the hospital is completely gone (razed for new construction).
