Okay, so a new right-wing outragery is that the Equal Opportunity office in the Pentagon has a training manual. Which they used to train people who work for the EO office. It says things in it! Like that white straight dudes might be getting a bit luckier in life, on average, than black lesbians.
There are two things about this Fox opinion thingy that merit highlighting:
First, some dude is OUTRAGED!!!1! that he works for the Equal Opportunity office and is being forced to pass on knowledge such as: “Assume racism is everywhere, everyday,” and “One of the privileges of being white is not having to see or deal with racism all the time,” and “As such, the unfair economic advantages and disadvantages created long ago by institutions for whites, males, Christians, etc. still affect socioeconomic privilege today.” I know, it is horrible, we should feel bad that he feels bad. Here is how bad he feels:
“I should not be in a position to do that,” he said. “It violates Constitutional principles, but it also violates my conscience. And I’m not going to do it – not going to do it.”
So, that's wrong on so many levels that I'm just going to let it stand on its own. You are welcome, feel free to tear into it below.
BUT! This, while noteworthy for a lot of reasons, is nothing compared to the angst, suffering, and whiny torment of former Congressman and Lt. Col. Allen West (ret.) who went to the military once and DID NOT HAVE TO TELL WHITE PEOPLE TO FEEL BAD ABOUT THEMSELVES! He would like a Congressional investigation into just when Obama made the military all anti-white.
“This is the Obama administration’s outreach of social justice into the United States military,” he told me. “Equal Opportunity in the Army that I grew up in did not have anything to do with white privilege.”
Then, I think he may have said that the Obama administration was wack for being cool with the Equal Opportunity people learning about racism. (Of course Obama personally reads all military manuals cover to cover, that is why he hasn't been able to do anything about Gitmo yet.) We will never know if he was actually attempting to draw fellow black people into the don't-make-white-people-feel-bad trend by dropping slang from his youth because he said this to a person who may or may not have transcribed the quote correctly. In context, I think we have a fine example of why inferring words whilst trying to spell slang phonetically is a bad call. I am not sure if one can appropriate one's own culture, but if it is possible Allen West just did it. Because he hates social justice.
“When the president talked about fundamentally transforming the United States of America, I believe he also had a dedicated agenda of going after the United States military,” he said. “The priorities of this administration are totally whacked.”
ETA: As soon as I hit publish I saw Umphie had a post about the same story. It made me giggle, and it is more informative than mine!
