As he embarks on another dark exercise in weighing the relative worth of human suffering and existence, I gotta wonder: What is life like for Ken Feinberg? Leave aside the controversy that has dogged some of his work and just consider what it's like to deal with disasters and their toll, one after another. Sure, on your good days you rest easy knowing the relief, security and hope for the future you're bringing to people who really need some light. But I don't think I could spend my life weighing the monetary value of untold suffering or lives unlived and getting to know the intimate stories of victims of unfathomable trouble, natural and man-made. All the while knowing that nothing can really make up for their loss.
And good morning to you, too.
