Mark Sutton, the stuntman who wowed the 2012 Olympics stadium crowd when he parachuted into the arena playing James Bond to a good-sport Queen, died Wednesday in the only way he really could: a wing-diving accident in the Swiss Alps. There is something inherently impressive and ridiculous about the way he lived and died. Part Icarus, part Flying Elvii. I don't know. So I'll just say RIP.
(You may be relieved to know that although online extreme sports broadcaster Epic TV said Sutton was killed during a gathering it had organized involving 20 wingsuit pilots who were filmed as they jumped from helicopters, Epic TV editor-in-chief Trey Cook said that while Sutton jumped with another diver who was wearing a camera, the moment of impact had not been captured.)
