Sometimes Explanations are Simple

Often when I'm on the phone and the call waiting sounds, if I don't recognize who is calling, I'll punch the number into a search engine to decide whether it's worth ending the first call. Sometimes the number comes up from a company website, a home listing or maybe a classified ad someone ran one time, while a lot of other times, I get links to the who-called-me sites.

It always astonishes me as I read through the entries, the number of people who post their own phone numbers or names with a note asking the caller to stop. What's more, usually if you run a search on those names and numbers, it's apparent from the data mining site blurbs that they are often older people and because they've posted their name or number to the internet on their own, it's no wonder they're getting scam calls.
