Trying to give up Stewart and Colbert

It's four minutes until my usual nightly routine of watching The Daily Show and Colbert Report, and I'm thinking of skipping it, to giving it up completely like an alcoholic gives up beer. I don't need the stress and depression in my life that is the subject of both shows: the completely asinine and ridiculous American government. Plus, why expose myself to a daily heaping of stupidity that both shows dissect? Ignorance is bliss. I don't have to be unaware of what's going on in the world—I still read the paper, and I watch John Oliver's fantastic new show. That, mercifully is weekly, and simply more entertaining than the daily iterations. It is more informative about a subject, and it doesn't repackage Fox News clips for easy satire. (If I can live the rest of my life without listening to, watching and thinking about that channel...) Last Week tonight keeps you abreast of issues without the reminder that the Colbert character has all too many real life analogues, and without the "Fuck it, I'm giving a speech straight to the camera" of Stewart's growing despair. Both shows out of my life, even for a short while, would probably be better for me.
